John, Paul, George & Ringo
In honor of the upcoming December 8th anniversary of John Lennon’s passing, the next few posts will be Beatles-related. I’ll be remembering the Fab Four – the group that changed the look and sound of music forever.
To start things off, click here for an introduction to the Beatles prior to the Ed Sullivan Show.
And here, on their first visit to America and The Ed Sullivan Show, The Beatles sing I Want To Hold Your Hand.

Thank you for making it Beatles week. This is the anniversary of John Lennon’s death, RIP. They’re going to start playing “And So this is Christmas” on the radio soon, it’s one of my favorite holiday songs and it never fails to make me tear up. “War is over…if you want it”
That clip from the Jack Paar show was very entertaining, he seems amused but somewhat perplexed about what all the kids’ excitement was about.
In regard to ” I Want to Hold Your Hand”, did you ever hear the German version, the Beatles recorded, “Komm Gib Mir Deine Hand” ? It’s really good and what always strikes me when I hear it , is that I really still like the song even though I only know about 5 words in German. I always think that is the test of a great popular song, you hear it in some language you don’t even know and the song still rocks.
While this month conjures memories of John, for the true Beatles fan, EVERY month holds a memory of them. I watched them on Ed Sullivan, cried when my mom said I was too young to go to Shea Stadium to see them live, and screamed with the rest of the girls at a double feature of Help!/A Hard Day’s Night. Now, time for all posters to be counted: who is your fave? George forever!
